Club History
Wilsden Cricket Club was founded in the late 19th century and the earliest records suggest the foundation of the club was around 1873. Apart from breaks due to the 1st and 2nd World Wars cricket has been played in Wilsden village to the present day.
The club has moved its home in the village over the years and again little is known of the earliest grounds. In the first part of the 20th century the Club played in a field behind the old St Matthew's Church at Church Lane, off Lane Side. Following the 2nd World War the club was in need of a new ground and through local contacts and financial donations, in 1946 work began on preparing a cricket square at its current ground, Shay Gate off Haworth Road.
Re-Joining the West Bradford League in 1947 and then the Bradford Central League in 1962 the club recorded many successes in both league and cup competitions. In 2004 Wilsden Cricket Club joined the Craven and District Cricket League and the 1st and 2nd Teams now compete against local clubs from the Aire Valley, Craven area, and East Lancashire.
In 2009 Wilsden Cricket Club Juniors were formed and in their inaugural season an Under 9s team competed in the Upper Airedale Junior Cricket League. Offering cricket to local boys and girls is an essential part of the Clubs future and with newly established and growing links with Wilsden Junior AFC the Club is increasing its position within the village community.
The Juniors have expanded in 2010 to now include U9s, U11s and U13s and with access to fantastic facilities at Bradford Grammar School, our weekly coaching is developing cricket skills for players of all abilities.
